Confused or intimidated by the Lightroom Classic catalog system? The thing that creates more trouble for Lightroom Classic users than anything else is understanding how catalogs work and how to successfully import and manage images in Lightroom. Fortunately, once you get the hang of it, it isn’t difficult and has quite a few advantages over many other imaging applications. In this session, I explain how Lightroom Classic catalogs work in simple terms and walk you through the basics of importing images into the catalog and then managing them easily and efficiently in the Library module. Let’s face it… we don’t always get to enjoy photography in the perfect light. And some times we don’t get to keep going back to the same places, so we basically get what we get. Identifying our own personal style when it comes to photo editing is something I think many of us are working towards. And, one of the best ways to develop your creative style is by focusing on the colors contained within your images. Lightroom provides a multitude of various ways to impact color, but one of the newest and most capable tools available to us in Lightroom is Color Wheels. Color Wheels enables us to get highly creative and targeted with how we colorize specific tones within our images. In this class we’ll review the many ways that you can improve the overall quality along with the creative aspect of your outdoor and landscape photos by harnessing the creative power of Lightroom Color Wheels. 

There are some interesting ways to take advantage of using Photoshop and Lightroom together that go well beyond basic image retouching. In this session we’ll look at some interesting (and unusual) ways to create elements in Photoshop that we’ll use in Lightroom. Examples include creating graphics to use as nameplates and watermarks, designing interesting edge effects and overlays, and mocking up a product label that can be used live during a tethered shoot.

You may not know it, but if you have ever switched between black and white or color in Lightroom, you have been using one of the most powerful and important features, the Profiles. Profiles are how Lightroom interprets your photographs at the most basic level. It is the “look and feel” of the image that you see before you start editing. It is the foundation on which all other edits are based. Every decision, editing choice, and final look of your image is impacted by the profile you select.

I like to think of a profile as a blueprint that tells Lightroom how to assemble the image. The profile can impact colors, tones, contrast, color grading, and so much more. Profiles can be used for simulating camera styles, films, black and white variations, color values, or creative interpretations. In this class, we will dive into using Profiles and explore how to use them and how they impact your images and editing options in Lightroom and Lightroom Classic. We will also learn how to make our own profiles using Photoshop and Camera RAW that you can use to help define and refine your own sense of style. By the time we are done with the class, you might find that you have a brand new way of seeing your images when you start your work in Lightroom.

This class will show you more advanced techniques to control aspects of your image using range masks (luminance) to dial in exactly what you need, where you need it, effectively learning how to dodge (brighten) and burn (darken) specific parts of your images. This time we will look at the RGB curve and color grading tools to tweak the mood of the image. These techniques are for those who have more time and inclination to get the most out of their shots. 

In this session we will look into the exciting world of HDR and Panoramas. Using these techniques, you are able to combine multiple photographs into an image that is much more striking than a single photo. Lightroom makes it very easy to make these highly sought after images. You will learn the best type of shots to turn into a panorama or HDR (OR both, HDR Panorama). What settings to use to capture the images, and exactly how to put them together in Lightroom.

Wouldn’t it be great to be able to share and edit your images in Lightroom on any device wherever you are?
