As we approach the new year and the new decade, it is important to look ahead and set goals for our businesses.  As business owners, we know the importance of setting annual goals for our businesses but this process shouldn’t stop there.  When was the last time you looked at your 2019 goals? When you wrote them in January maybe? As you take out your notebooks and favorite pen or open up a new document to map out your 2020 goals, it is important to reflect on how far you have come this year.  We often get caught up in chasing the next milestone or client or dollar that we forget to review what we have accomplished. When we reflect on our businesses, we are able to step back and look at where we were when we rang in 2019 with all the hopes and possibilities of a new year and where we will end the year.  

This is reason to celebrate-you will probably realize that you have accomplished more than you think.  We are often so busy working “in” our business that we don’t stop and celebrate how far we have come. It is so easy to focus on what still needs to be done or goals that were not met rather than the goals that were met and the things that were accomplished.  It is important to take time out and Celebrate! Big or Small, we can always find something to celebrate.

What do I have to celebrate for 2019? 

1. I have a team!  I hired 3 employees in 2019 which not only was a goal for 2019, it was one that I considered a ‘stretch’ goal.  A year ago, I was interviewing my first candidate and today I am getting ready for a team holiday party which involves 8 people rather than just my husband and I.
2. New amazing clients! As I packaged up the holiday gifts for my clients, I took an extra minute to note that the stack of boxes was 3 times bigger than last year. All these awesome small business owners  have trusted us with their bookkeeping and let us be a part of their businesses.

Looking back on this past year has shown me the importance of dreaming big and to stop playing small!
