Creating a gift-centered culture
Why now?
Many helping organizations are midway in the logical progression of both learning and action as they move from a professionalized service/support model to a person-centered/community-oriented way of thinking and acting. Leading-edge organizations are now asking: “What’s next?”
We believe the idea and practices of gifts are the next logical connecting threads between people being supported, organizations providing support, and the communities they are working in.
Why this approach?
-
Because gifts take strengths to a deeper level of self-worth, motivation and action for people being supported
-
Because employees of support organizations respond powerfully when they are seen for their gifts and have those gifts utilized in their work
-
Because organizations have gift culture-building responsibility if they are committed to furthering their community inclusion strategies
-
Because communities, when they see all members as gifted, begin to deepen their commitment to inclusion
What is the invitation?
We have built a brand-new learning and action model which combines the four necessary areas for creating gift-centered cultures: 1) the newest culture-science research about how to build and sustain focused work cultures, 2) ABCD community-development research and practices, 3) leadership sponsorship theory and action and 4) the tools for identifying and using gifts with people being supported, in organizational culture, and in community places. The learning curriculum includes an 8-part comprehensive assessment tool organizations will use for setting an initial baseline and mapping their strategies to build and sustain a gift-centered culture.
We will come together for an initial 2-day event to deepen our learning in the four critical areas described above, use the assessment tool to share baselines and determine future action, and create a learning agenda for the on-going video discussions over a 12-month period.
Why a learning commons?
Learning Commons are based in the design theory that no single entity has a comprehensive solution. Learning commons are helpful when the primary issue is complex, there are multiple solutions available, and shared learning increases success.
Who's invited?
We’re inviting 6-8 organizations who want to learn together over a 12-month period.
What are the benefits?
- Initial two-day learning commons: Creating gift-centred culture
- Access to the Creating gift-centred culture assessment tool
- Participation in eight 1.5 hour video calls, 6 weeks apart to get support for your change plan and learn from others

Who's sponsoring?
The Learning Commons is a joint effort of the Core Gift Institute and a variety of guests.
“Our work with the Core Gift Institute to deepen the power of gifts in our individual, organizational and community life has been transformative to our organization. It has been this shift in having confidence in the gift approach that is helping us build a resilient workforce that is able to stay hopeful and not get lost in the pain, sadness and fear of very difficult work in increasingly challenging and unsettled times.”
