#020: Disaster To Domination: How To Overcome A Bombed Summit

Description:

Lisa takes us through her experience from crushing her first summit to bombing her second.  The reasons that happened, how you can avoid it, and the specific steps she took to immediately turn it around and make it a big success for her & the speakers!  Plus a special strategy that helped her ensure success.

About Lisa Edwards

Lisa Edwards wants to live in a world where dogs can talk and sleep isn’t necessary

She’s been featured on Amy Porterfield, I Will Teach You to Be Rich, and photography clients have included The Wall Street Journal and Montana Magazine.

When she’s not researching fascinating summit interviews, she’s experimenting with lighting a scene with nothing but what’s in the kitchen drawers. You can find her planning “awkward photo” charity events, exploring old speakeasies, and taking care of three tiny human beings she co-created.

A Pioneer In Her Industry

👉  The specificity of the aging dog summit.

👉  Going general and generic can sometimes create a little bit of just interest, but not enough.certainly not enough conversions, whereas something super specific like that can.

What She Learned From Her Summits

👉  Going from a very small list to a list of 5,000 engaged and qualified subscribers who then went on to convert into a total of about $30,000 and that was just off of one summit

👉  The second summit had some things that I didn't do that I should have done.
👉  I was relying solely on speakers instead of  having some guaranteed marketing.  About 1,500 registrants and roughly $3,000 to $5,000 in sales.  I re-marketed it in  April. So about three, four months after and I did end up getting over that 5,000 registrants hump.

👉  It is important to follow through with the expectations that you reference to your speakers on previous summits that you have done.

👉  Decide what you can do to make yourself more credible in your niche.

👉  Create a separate "About You" page that your speakers can view your awards/accomplishments

👉  Dave Rogen Moser with  "Proof" did some research to show that when people have the, as seen on images on their website, it increases the conversions dramatically.

👉  Determining that specific problem is crucial -  brick and mortar businesses in service based industries were interested and got value from the virtual summit and we were able to monetize that.

How She Determines Her Speakers

👉  Get some people that now you can use as social proof when you reach out to bigger speakers.

👉  I reached out to people who I had first already bought from

👉  One of them, it was so perfect, she had already bought my tween course that I told you about and she was the president of the professional photographers of America and she had reached out saying how she loved the course.  This was a perfect speaker!

👉  Not all speakers need to have an email list, her experience and expertise was exactly what was needed.

   👉  Researching people on social

👉  No name people I found kept the summit raw and real - true hidden gems

How She Increased The Success Of Her Summits

👉  Listing out accomplishments and logos on the website

👉  Get sponsors to promote.  Reach out to companies that you have used for years.

👉  Reach out to customer service and not only let them know how long you have been a customer but compliment the product, discuss how you want to increase their customer base.
👉  It's interesting because you want these bigger companies that have these bigger lists, but they're actually the ones that are less likely to promote.

👉  I really think reaching out to some smaller try, both smaller and bigger companies start with who you know, but those medium to small companies or are more likely to get you that traffic.

👉  Reaching out to a warm contact in general. They have a vested interest almost in supporting you, so you have a much higher chance of getting their involvement

👉  In kind sponsor versus a paid sponsor

A Bombed Summit Can Still Be Salvageable

👉  The summit that bombed is the one that I re-launched

👉   Remind yourself that it is NOT the end of the world.

👉   Truly care about your speakers

   👉   Do in kind sponsorships

👉   Include speakers that may have smaller lists but will promote you even more.

👉   Diversify your traffic resources - find those that are still in "hustle mode"

👉   Maintain your credibility with your speakers by OWNING IT

👉   Don't be afraid of the answer No

   👉   Never give up

   👉   Monetize with a re-launch

Words Of Wisdom

If you have a family or just want to have a life, don't ever end your summit at midnight or the don't end your summit day at midnight. Make sure it happens in the middle of the day. My first two summits, I would stay up until midnight to make sure everything rolled over to the next day. And was up till 2:00 AM some nights.
