Increased productivity
Sustained measurable results.
Women spend nearly a third of their lives post-menopausal and the retirement age is increasing.
Â
Women are working for longer - They contribute enormously in the workplace - but menopause can have a huge impact on women’s health, with a knock-on effect on productivity at work.
Â
Symptoms last four years on average - and often much longer.
Â
It’s crucial for women to get the support they need, so they can continue to thrive in their professional lives - without the physical and psychological side-effects of menopause affecting their work, output or overall job satisfaction.
A happy and healthy workforce is exponentially more productive and effective.
Â
Latest figures show women now make up almost half of the workforce in the UK, and with over 3.5 million women aged 50 plus in employment and 25% of those suffering severe menopausal symptoms it stands to reason that menopause impacts not just the women going through it, but their colleagues and employers, too.
Â
Menopausal issues still come with a stigma, with many women still not asking for the help they need in order to thrive (or simply survive) at work.
Your needs and values matter.
You can’t pour from an empty cup.
Poor concentration, tiredness, memory problems, depression and anxiety, confidence issues, fatigue and hot flushes really aren’t conducive to being your best self at work.
Â
It’s enormously important for employers to adequately support women as they navigate menopause - there should be measures in place with communication channels open to allow women in occupational settings to receive practical and emotional support.
Â
It has been estimated that around 10% of women actually stop work altogether because of their severe menopausal symptoms. Employers have a legal duty to make reasonable adjustments if menopausal symptoms are affecting you at work - but they can only do this if they’re aware of your situation.
Â
Â
How can I help?
Â
I work closely with organisations and businesses to help implement a plan for supporting women in the workplace through the menopause transition.
Â
This can look different for each workplace, but can often involve tailored seminars, action plans, support sessions, coaching and workshops - created bespoke to suit the individual needs of your team.
Â
Implementation is the key word here - menopause issues are thankfully receiving more airtime these days, but it’s important for real positive plans to be put in place - otherwise you’re simply talking a good game but not actually doing anything substantive to support menopausal women in the workplace.
Â
Â
If you’re an employer, I can help you learn to:
- Normalise discussions around menopause at work - because simply talking about it removes a huge barrier. I’ll show you exactly how to facilitate these conversations.
- Create an inclusive working environment where women of all ages feel heard, valued and understood
- Give your female workforce the emotional tools to reach their full potential - for their own benefit and for that of their employer.
- Foster a workspace where women feel less alone at work, able to cope and remain in their positions.
- Implement initiatives to support women and introduce spaces and practical measures for them to thrive, regardless of hormonal symptoms.
