What is Shamanism?

Shamanism is the most ancient form of healing. It is a spiritual path coupled with practical strategies for survival. Moreover, it is a way of life. It is a way to connect with nature and all of creation. It is a method by which we as human beings can strengthen that natural connection. Shamanic practices tap into the power Mother Earth has to offer and the ancient indigenous teachings are derived from the simple truths of nature. Shamanism is not only concerned with the health of the individual, but also with the health of the entire community.

This includes all people, plants, animals, and all of life. We, as a culture, are so profoundly distracted and absent from the present moment and therefore from ourselves and each other. Connection to nature is our saving grace. The invitation is to find your presence in the greatness of her beauty within. Daily spiritual practice allows for the continued and exponential growth of both body and soul. The goal is to create internal and external harmony with all creation. Learning to approach and connect with sacred places is an intrinsic part of shamanism. By honoring natural wonders such as rivers, lakes, mountains, and caves, we reawaken and invigorate the energy of the land.

As a Shamanic Practitioner, Monica recognizes that both the longstanding cultural lineages of indigenous cultures and the emerging hybridization of shamanic practices have a place in the modern context. She works in an applied shamanic context to assist people interested in experiencing or learning about shamanism in a respectful and thorough way and does not attempt to impart specific lineage based practices other than that in which she is trained. She holds all cultural lineages sacred and does her best to assist in preserving cultural heritages and strives to support those engaged in preserving their cultural traditions whenever possible. At this critical stage on the planet, this work and practice are needed more than ever to assist in healing on a global scale.

“Our Pachakuti Mesa Tradition is a spiritually based science that seeks to reveal the dynamic presence of the human soul in all paths that lead to self-actualization, the co-creative fashioning of culture, and heartfelt reverence for our relationship of inter-dependence with the natural world.” don Oscar Miro-Quesada
