Self Care is not an Emergency Plan

How to Boost your Immunity and stay Healthy over Winter

Self care is the practise of maintaining your physical, mental and emotional health. A lifelong process that is continually evolving and changing.

Self care is ....

not an ‘emergency plan’, it’s an everyday commitment to a healthier, happier you.
With that said, let me ask you an important question…

When was the last time that you took proper care of yourself?

If you answer is: “I don’t know”, or “hmmm… good question.” Then perhaps it’s time that you reevaluate your relationship with yourself. You see, the relationship that you have with yourself is the most important relationship that you will have in this lifetime. It starts from the moment that you’re born and develops with you each and everyday.

As part of a healthy self care practise it’s important that we show our body the love that it so rightfully deserves throughout our whole life. By loving our body at every stage of its journey we are able to give it the proper love and care that it needs to get to where we would like it to be, while also keeping in mind that our body isn’t supposed to stay the same. How it looks and how it feels in our 50s is vastly different from how it looked and felt in our early 20s and that’s okay.

What we want to avoid is falling into the trap of resenting our body and allowing negative self talk to take over.

You know what I’m talking about… those awful statements that unfortunately we so often allow ourselves to believe.

“I’m too fat.”
“Nobody will ever love me because of the way that I look… ”
“I look huge.”

And while it’s obvious that statements like these are not helpful, what might be less obvious is that negative self talk can actually lead to weight gain, digestive issues, deregulated appetite and nutrient depletion and the inability to lose weight.

The good news is learning to love your body and support it through it’s journey doesn’t have to be complicated. It just requires a little bit of self care and dedication to a healthier, happier you.

All you need is 5-10 minutes every day to start seeing the benefits and reaping the rewards.
“So what are some easy, cost effective ways that you can practise self care in 10 minutes or less?”
I’m so glad you asked! Below is a list of some of my most favourite ways to practise self care.

  • Meditate
  • Stretch
  • Journal
  • Read a book
  • Dance to your favourite song
  • Text a friend
  • Make your favourite hot drink
  • Snuggle with a pet
  • Write a list of things you’re grateful for
  • Give yourself a neck massage
  • Take a bath
  • Plant something
  • Go for a walk

Keep in mind that this is just a short list. There are countless ways that you can practise self care to support your body and your mind.

The point is, however you choose to practice self care, make sure that it’s a priority in your life.
“Self care is giving the world the best of you, rather than what’s left of you.”
