The Momentum Games

Designing the Practice Court

The Momentum Games reverse engineer the practice court to look and feel more like what a player will experience in a competitive match.  The idea here is to have a player learn in practice how to negotiate the pressure of shot rally length and how to win consecutive points to capture and maintain the momentum to win the match.

1. Deuces are Wild "Slim Jim"

(Deuces are Wild is a game designed for a player to understand how critical it is to win 2 points in a row.  "Slim Jim" is the Court Style used here, it is where each player throughout the entire point must keep the ball inside the middle 3rd of the court (The Cages).

2. Deuces are Wild "Hurricane 3"

(Deuces are Wild is the game once again.  "Hurricane 3" is the Court Style used here, there are 5 levels of Hurricane Style, this is Level 3.  It is where each player MUST PLAY their R(Return) and S1(1st shot after Serve) into the middle 3rd of the court (The Cages), then after the first two groundstrokes of the point, the court opens up and the ball can be played anywhere in the court.

3. SIRI Serve Tactical Game

(SIRI stands for S1/R1, SIRI is a game where each player must play a FOREHAND either on the S1 or R1 shot of the point to earn their SIRI Point.  The point continues and each player is competing to also earn the Winning Point.  If neither player hits a FOREHAND, the Winning Point is earned only.  SIRI is played where each player Serves or Returns the entire game, play to 7 or 10 Points. This video shows the player Serving the entire game.)

4. SIRI Return Tactical Game

(This video shows the player Returning the entire game.  As you Play or Coach this game, you will find your strengths and weaknesses when either Serving or Returning SIRI.)

5. Tsunami

(Tsunami is a game that helps a player understand how momentum often and even suddenly can "shift" during a point, game, or set.  The idea behind Tsunami is learning to win 2 consecutive points, defined as a (Momentum Point), then trying to win the 3rd consecutive point called a (Conversion Point).  Each Momentum Point is equal to 1 game, and the Conversion Point is equal to 1 game ONLY IF and after you've won a Momentum Point.  If you lose a Momentum Point (2 consecutive points), and then win the Conversion Point, you simply begin the next game up 1-0 in the Momentum Score.  This is one of the best mindset transformational games created

here at the Art of Winning.)
