There's commitment.

And then there's commitment.

Would you tattoo your body with the picture of a boy riding a corncob rocketship to score free tacos for life?  If you're a committed taco-lover, this may seem like a pretty good deal. In fact, after they had already launched the promotion, the restaurant offering the deal calculated that with an $8 meal every week, the offer could cost them a staggering $5.8 million. The San Francisco-based Casa Sanchez became legendary in 1998 when more than a few customers took them up on this lifetime-commitment offer. Yet less than 15 years later, the restaurant closed when the owners decided to invest in another, more lucrative full-time project, and the tattoo holders were left without the return they'd expected on their inked investment.

While being able to decisively commit to a plan of action is an important trait for success, so too is deciding where your commitment lies. You can be "all in", but if the product you chose doesn't provide a true, long-term solution to your problem, all the capital and time you invest becomes little more than self-doubt and frustration.

Why Product-based Solutions Fail

As a professional leader, you need to be able to function at your best consistently. This is difficult when there are so many demands on your time and attention that push self-care to the bottom of the priority list. So it's a good bet that you've probably tried at least one product-based solution to improve your health that is now gathering dust in your basement or pantry (or decomposing in a landfill).  While it's tempting to try a new product that promises the world, chances are very slim that the solution will last long-term, no matter how committed you are to making it work.

Knowledge, Not Products

Simply put, no product will be around forever. Pills, shakes, and pre-packaged foods are not a long-term solution. Even if you're at "taco tattoo" in your level of commitment and manage not to get sick of them, it's very possible that the company simply won't be around long enough to carry through your lifetime.

Part of that is because, paradoxically, these plans are designed to sell products that consumers must continue to buy, even though they are not sustainable solutions. Eventually, enough people will have tried and failed with a product that its trendiness wears off, the movement loses steam, and the company folds.

Leadwell isn’t a program that involves buying stuff that will sit unused in your pantry or basement. It is about learning -  about your chance to gain knowledge to better yourself and your life with support from experts who have experience with the subject and understand the challenges you’ll run into.

Does that description sound familiar? Yeah, that’s college. That’s trade school. That's apprenticeship.

So, if society has you thinking that it’s crazy to enlist an expert to support you and help you optimize your health, you've probably watched a few too many quick-fix, product-based infomercials.
