Camp Day 7

Outdoor Adventures!

We started the morning off with a quick jog, then practiced walking side-by-side with our dogs. This was to test the dogs' skills of walking close to one another without being distracted, and also a test of how fast the Campers could reinforce their dogs to reward them for their attentiveness.

We then came back into the barn and practiced the "Down" command. Just like we did with the crate exercises, we gradually increased distance, duration, and distractions. We made a game of it, playing “musical chairs” with the dogs.

Next, we had a quick discussion about the open house last night. We're so happy to report that 8 dogs were adopted! Only 9 more to go!

After an amazing training session and discussion, it was time to go on an outing. Today, we took all the dogs to Riverside Park in Oviedo. There, some dogs were allowed off-leash, and others were put on long-lines (a dog training lead that's usually 15 feet or longer).

The Campers got into groups and went exploring with their pups into the river and woods around the park. This allowed the dogs and Campers to have a full sensory experience. Everyone all took their shoes off so they wouldn’t get wet, and Ranger got a small splinter. Rachael performed "emergency surgery", and with the support of all the other Campers, his foot was freed from the tiny splinter.

Teena and Dominic prepared hamburgers and hot dogs for us. The Campers quickly got in line to eat lunch. We played in the river some more, and then it was time to head back to Doglando. The Campers voted on going to Wawa to get some snacks on the way home. When we got back to Doglando, it was time for chores and naps.
