Dr Coull graduated from University of Edinburgh in 1993 and trained in Edinburgh, Sydney and Oxford completing a MD on the Epidemiology of Acute Vascular Events prior to being appointed as a Consultant Physician in Geriatric and General Medicine in Edinburgh in 2004 and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh (RCPE) in 2006. He is a RCPE council member and PACES examiner. He was the NHS Lothian Associate Medical Director for Older Peoples Services between 2015 and 2022. Since 2012 Andrew has had an increasing interest in Community Geriatric Medicine and started their Edinburgh Hospital at Home Service (HaH) in 2015. In 2022 he became the Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership Clinical Lead for Older Peoples Community Hospitals and HaH. He is the Co-chair of the Lothian Hospital at Home Oversight Group that aims to develop a safe, effective, and consistent HaH service for the Lothians. With a colleague he runs a busy Edinburgh HaH service with up to 180 HaH admissions per month with 80% GP referrals and an average length of stay of 5 days.
