Shankhpushpi - The Dwarf Morning Glory​

Shankhpushpi (Concolvulus Pluricaulis)- A perennial herb that grows in the Northern plains of India. It flowers in a shape that resembles a white conch. The whole plant can be used for medicinal purposes. This herb brings feelings of peace and calmness, helps insomnia, anxiety, stress and mental fatigue. Shankhpushpi is traditionally used as a brain tonic to treat nervous disability and low energy. It is used as a rasayanam for anti-aging, improving life expectancy, and longevity. The herb is a natural detoxifier (visha).

 

  • Rasa - Katu (pungent) and Kashya (astringent)
  • Guna - Guru (heavy), Sara (unstable), Snigdha (oily), Pichchila (sticky)
  • Virya - Ushna (hot)
  • Vipaka - Madhura (sweet)
  • Karma - Tridoshic. It especially balances Vata and pitta.
  • Prabhava - Special effect - Medhya - Improves intelligence

 

Ways to take Shankhpushpi

  1. You can take as a paste (Medhya) ( 1-2 grams)
  2. Water decoction (Kashayam) 50-100 ml in divided quantity
  3. Pill capsules, 1 pill twice daily
  4. Eating Leaves - used to treat high blood pressure, asthma
