When we educate families on preparing for college, we start with understanding college readiness. The College for Free™ approach explains it in terms of RISK. Colleges get money by the number of students they recruit, retain and graduate. So, when students are considered for admissions and funding opportunities, they think about them in terms of R.I.S.K.
The RISK score of a student to a college is like a credit score to a bank. Banks will only issue you a credit card if they trust that you are a good RISK, one who is able to pay the money back. Same with colleges. When they give you an opportunity of admittance or a scholarship, will you stay, perform academically, graduate and give back as an Alum?
