Have you ever had a goal, a dream, or simply wished for something? I dare say you have.
You may have heard or remember these timeless sayings; “make a wish” and blow out the candle or ‘if you can dream it you can do it’ or “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”
And I love each of these sayings because they instil hope and aspiration to do more, be more, achieve more.
You may or may not know that recently I set myself a series of mini goals to achieve in my 60th year. I’ve been feeling the passing of time and noticing the places that I DON’T want to be in my life – tired, no energy, unmotivated, sluggish, niggly little health issues, joint & back pain & feeling like everyday is like groundhog day….
Sound familiar?
So, with a couple of walking buddies, we all decided to enrol in a 30km walk organised by Coastrek around the southern coastline of Adelaide. The training leading up to this and the walk itself was physically and mentally challenging and exhilarating and we all LOVED the experience – bring on the “Walkers High!!”
And it all really started with some easy beach walks over summer. Before long, we were all walking most days in all types of weather and it became an integral part of my week to connect with friends, take in our beautiful beaches and invigorating sea air and improve my mind and body's health.
On the weekend, we completed the City to the Bay 12km walk with 25,000 Adelaidians, and we had loads of entertainment & fun on the way – walkers dressed up in super hero costumes, jazz & rock bands, balloons & enthusiastic water station attendants!
Our next walking adventure is the 35km “Bloody Long Walk” in October around our beautiful city of Adelaide and we have even been contemplating doing some even longer walks to the tune of 150km in total!
My point, is, that had we not planted a seed and challenged ourselves, we would not have had these wonderful experiences, and our minds would not have opened up to the possibilities of having even greater adventures and filling up our “Fun Bucket” and achieving bigger and greater goals!
Setting goals has been a part of my life since I was a kid, training for running and swimming meets. If you wanted to be in the top 3 to finish, you had to train, you had to set a goal, and I’ve applied this thought process throughout my life around my health and my business.
A goal without a plan is just a wish!
Setting goals is one of the best, most sure-fire ways to reach your dream, and doing it with a group guided by a Coach is the ultimate in creating a life that you LOVE!
