THE MARRIAGE INTENSIVE EXPERIENCE
One of the most effective ways to heal and restore a couple's marriage is via Marriage Intensives. Most couples looking into a Marriage Intensive are hurting, discouraged, and have lost hope. Our Marriage Intensives are designed for couples in relationship crisis who need to rebuild trust and restore love and intimacy with each other.
We offer a safe, non-judgmental, and nurturing environment to begin the work of unearthing the root causes of your marital issues. We evaluate the details to develop a comprehensive customized treatment plan for each couple as individuals and as a pair. Couples will learn how to deepen their connection, increase communication through empathy and listening, and understand and value their differences.
They also learn how to resolve conflicts, restore trust, change patterns, reduce blame, and move through issues that would usually be a roadblock. By the end of the intensive, couples are equipped to return home with valuable insight, transformational tools, and researched proven techniques and principles to apply in their daily lives.
Marriage Intensives are ideal for busy couples who need to get to the root of the matter quickly rather than take several months working at issues at the pace of one hour a week as with typical counseling. Marriage Intensives allow couples to escape the distractions of work, children, computers, cell phones, etc., so that spouses can give their undivided attention to each other and to healing their marriage. This time is also beneficial for couples who may be on the verge of separation or divorce or in severe pain. Often couples want to give the marriage one last try before making any decisions.
OUR APPROACH TO RELATIONSHIP DISTRESS
Relationships can be challenging and even painful at times. Relationships suffer when there’s too much conflict, fighting, and resentment – and sometimes the walls go up with emotional and physical distance. The powerful feelings we experience in distressed relationships are universal. We may react with blame, anger and shutting down. Then our spouse or partner reacts to the anger and distance, and this creates a relationship “dance”. A dance that is all too familiar. The specific problem areas that we address in our intensives include:

3-DAY PRIVATE MARRIAGE INTENSIVE
We spend three days together. Those three days are equivalent to 8 months of counseling. We will spend about 10-12 hours a day together engaged in couples sessions, individual sessions and experiential learning. It’s not for the faint of hearts. It’s very comprehensive deep dive intensive work that is designed to produce transformation. We take a three-prong approach to the weekend:
Your Marital Recovery:
When an affair occurs it shines a light on the struggles, marital patterns, and challenges within the relationship. We walk you through a comprehensive process that clearly identifies the root issues that are negatively impacting the marriage. We then provide you with tools and teach you specific skills that will enhance your relationship.
Your Individual Recovery:
In every relationship, there is a betrayed partner and an unfaithful partner and both are hurting in two very different ways and for two very different reasons. Therefore, working with each of you both individually and collectively will allow you and your spouse to make a quantum leap forward in your marriage. The betrayed partner will learn how to heal, regain confidence and self-esteem, genuinely forgive, re-establish trust, overcome triggers and open up one’s heart to their spouse again. The unfaithful partner will discover the true ‘why’ of the affair, how to help heal and restore the marriage, move beyond guilt and shame, and embrace a new relational code of ethics.

What’s the daily schedule during the Intensive?
The Marriage Intensive is conducted as a 3-day comprehensive program. The days are full and structured with both couple and individual sessions, couples connect (structured assignments are given), and ample time for meals.We strongly recommend that you spend the two days following the Intensive as time for personal reflection and implementation. Who presents the Intensive and how is it conducted?
Hasani Pettiford is the primary coach. He provides instruction and personalized individual guidance to ensure that each partner progresses successfully through the Intensive and learns tools for ongoing development. Danielle provides counsel and instruction as well duiring particular portions of the intensive. We combine the best of individual and couple work to support your relational journey, which is the core of the work. Because we take a customized approach to each couple there may be times when members of our practitioner team will work with you based upon a specific need.
What clothing will I need? Should I bring other materials or personal items?
You are highly recommended to be as casual as possible. Bring comfortable clothing for 3 days (jeans, t-shirts, sneakers, work-out clothing, swim gear, etc.,) Additional equipment that will be helpful are tablets, laptops. If there are particular food items/snacks that you like feel free to stock the kitchen as desired.
Are payment plans available for the marriage intensive?
Couples Academy offers three (3) payment options. Option #1: Paid in Full upon booking. Option #2: Half (50%) down and the balance due at the start of the intensive. Option #3: Half (50%) down and the balance due within 60 days of the initial deposit.
What is the location for a private marriage intensive?
There are two options when considering the location of your private marriage intensive. A) Couples can travel to our retreat center in Milton, Georgia. It's a part of the greater Atlanta area. The retreat center is extra large studio suit bedroom home. The entire bottom floor of the residence isa closed off retreat area replete with a queen-size bedroom, full bathroom, spacious living room, full kitchen, movie room, game room and lounge area. Sessions will take place in different areas of the home including: the office, the zen den and the retreat living room. B) If travel costs, work schedules or child-care issues prevent you from traveling to Atlanta, a Couples Academy coach with travel to your home state to conduct the intensive. A hotel will be secured in close proximity of your home for an easy and fast commute.The cost of the travel expenses (which covers the cost of flight and ground transportation) will be added to your final bill. Lodging will be paid for by Couples Academy. All sessions are held in the suite area of the hotel room.
Once the date is secured is there pre-work?
Once you secure a date, you will be provided with all of the necessary paperwork to get started. Once complete, we will schedule a 90-minute Pre-Intensive video session. The virtual meeting will provide an opportunity for both you, your partner and the coach to discuss specific relationship issues and set goals and objectives for the 3-day Intensive.
Once the intensive is complete do you offer aftercare services?
After the Intensive, you will receive 14-days of complimentary Crisis Coaching. Once you return home you may need help properly implementing the information you received. The two-week adjustment period allows you to contact your coach via phone, text, email and video on an ‘as-needed’ basis. You and your partner have the ability to ask any question and deal with any issue. Once the two weeks have concluded, it is frequently necessary for couples to continue their work with a coach/counselor on an ongoing basis in order to consolidate the gains they have made during the Couples Academy Private Marriage Intensive weekend. You will receive an aftercare follow-up session. Most couples continue their recovery process by enrolling in our one-year Recovery program.
