DAY TWO: Tuesday October 5
The saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” has never been truer than it is today with the need to tell a story on a global scale. Whether it is a product illustration, book cover, political view or whatever type of image you need, Illustrator and Photoshop are the tools to get the job done. In this session you will learn how to create photorealistic imagery from scratch. You will also see how photographic elements can be altered using the tools in Photoshop to create images that can’t be photographed.This session will concentrate on Layers and Channels.

Khara will walk you through the process of resizing, reshaping, and otherwise reconfiguring your images while avoiding the most common pitfalls. No matter what genre of photography or digital imaging you’re into, having a full understanding of how to properly wrangle your pixels is crucial. Whether you’re just getting started with Photoshop or you’ve been around the block a few times, Khara’s got something for everyone.
This session will concentrate on Brush creation and modification. You will learn brush techniques for creating a myriad of special effects and more. How to modify existing brushes and how to create brushes from scratch.
Everybody loves those delicious soft blurry backgrounds from a lens with huge apertures. But not everybody has an expensive piece of glass to create them. This class will explore several techniques for crafting your own “Bokeh-licious” backgrounds for multiple images and situations. Discussion of resources to use to manipulate the lighting and texture of the entire image so the background appears natural. Then show practical projects where the backgrounds are turned from regular snapshot style backgrounds into something magical and dreamlike. This is a great technique for things like Engagement shoots, senior portraits, etc.

Channels are one of the greatest features of Photoshop, and you use them every day even if you don't know it. In this session, we are going to take a deep dive into the world of channels. In the channels palette, we can find and see the color information about our files, see masks and selections we create, and add more plates for spot color printing options. There is so much you can do to your files when editing by using various channels. No matter if you're color correcting, masking, applying special effects, or correcting artifact issues using channels can help in a big way.
To make sure we can get the most out of our channels, we will start the session with some background on color and how it works in Photoshop's channels to better understand our images and files. From that foundation, we will apply various techniques and tips to adjust color, make selections (easy and complex), deal with sharpening and noise reduction with fewer artifacts, make better black and white conversions, and more – all using the power of channels.
DAY THREE: Wednesday October 6
Cinemagraphs are still photographs in which a minor and repeated movement occurs, forming a video clip and can give the illusion that the viewer is watching an animation. Join fine art photographer Anya Anti and learn how to easily start creating your first animations and cinemagraphs in Photoshop. Find out how to make animations from still images without actual video footage! Anya will show you how to work with Timeline in Photoshop, how to use layers and blending modes to create moving effects and how to use stock video for creating animations. She will show some tips and methods on how to export your animation and different file formats. Get inspired and learn how to bring life and magic into your photographs and make them move!

DAY FIVE: Friday October 8
Learn the tips and tricks for making advanced composite images come to life and look realistic: Cut out your subject, place them on a new background, fix lighting and color.
Learn how to fix the most common mistakes photographers make! In this class, Kristina discusses the top mistakes beginner photographers make when creating images and how to fix them in Photoshop, as well as how to correct them in-camera next time and avoid unnecessary extra hours fixing problems in post-production. This two-pronged approach ensures that you’ll leave this course with new skills that will make you a better photographer and retoucher.
This session focuses on some of the critical concepts around producing the best print possible. Building on the basics of having made a print, we start by looking at various prints hanging on the viewing wall and focusing on key considerations when evaluating the print. Diving into areas such as print size, cropping, the impact of artifacts from sharpening, masking, or printer settings, and how we process color and tone, we will develop a foundation of consistent language to talk about prints and an editing plan for the images. We will then return to Photoshop and Camera RAW (along with a little about the Lightroom Print Module) and learn some techniques for testing and applying the lessons learned while looking at the prints. We will also cover when and how to make custom ICC printing profiles, advanced paper and printer considerations, and outsource printing, including alternative substrates (metal, wood, acrylic). No matter your skill level in printing, there is something in this course for everyone. Learning how to evaluate prints, correcting an image, applying customization to maximize results, or just getting that last little refinement to a print, we've got you covered.
