Competition Day
Frequently Asked Questions
We are here to make your comp day as stress free as possible. Our professional artists are here to help. Remember comp day is generally busy and fast paced for our team and we do our best to get every ready in the time allocated.
A few important things to think about prior to your competition day:
YOUR COMPETITION PREP WITH SHIQUE
BASE TAN THE DAY BEFORE
This tan must be left to soak into your skin for at least 6-8 hours, majority of the time you will be advised to not wash your tan off at all for the best possible results. Only wash your base tan should you severly mark your tan (spill water all over yourself) or your coach advises so.
COMPETITION DAY – TOP COAT TAN
This stays on all day. This can be done BEFORE or AFTER hair & makeup. This will not be showered off.
Please Note: If you are competing in body building or physique we also recommend a coat of Dream tan. If we are located backstage we do this for you. If using a glaze for stage we recommend only doing this after pump up as can mark your tan and make it slide off your skin.
PREPARING FOR YOUR TAN
Exfoliate your body using a product that will regulate the PH in your skin or even use a soft exfoliation scrub and using an exfoliation mit scrub your body to be careful not to scratch your skin as this will show up on your tan. If waxing we suggest doing so a WEEK or so prior incase of marks.
8-12 Hours Prior to your Spray Tan:
Shower but no more exfoliating. Do NOT apply body oils or moisturiser.
Shave to remove unwanted body hair.
If you have to shower after Base tan:
Shower normally. Do not wash with soap. JUST USE THE WARM WATER NOT HOT and a gentle face washer for your hands if you feel they are too dark. For the first shower, you will see some colour wash away from your skin. Do not be concerned by this, as your developed tan is still there. While you are drying, remember to pat with a towel, not rub your skin.
PRE MAKEUP
Please ensure you arrive with a clean face (NO MAKEUP), and moisturiser on your skin (NO SPF). We will prime your skin before makeup application however please ENSURE you use a MOISTURISER as you will already be dehydrated from the comp prep and makeup sometimes doesn’t go on or hold to the skin as evenly as when you are hydrated. We supply lashes as part of your service.
MAKEUP
Competition day makeup is an important part of your overall appearance for stage. We carefully match your colour to your dark tan to ensure your features are highlighted for stage under the harsh lights ensuring you shine.
HAIR
Please ensure your hair is dry, clean and brushed. We suggest washing your hair the morning of getting your base coat tan with 2 shampoos & conditioner/treatment through to the ends. Blowdry straight for best possible styling results. We charge an extra $10 for clip in extension application and we suggest you drop them off before the day to save time on styling and we can have them ready to clip straight in.
PACKING YOUR COMPETITION BAG
For those with comp brain, packing a bag for your comp day takes time, precession and let’s be honest you unpack and repack it at least 5 times just to make sure you haven’t forgotten anything. However, if this is your first competition, its hard to know what exactly to pack so here is a little go to guide of essentials that we think everybody should take on comp day.
As professionals, you leave your final stage of the big day in our capable hands. The ‘glamifying’ process of tanning, makeup & hair are certainly one of the best parts of comp! Everyone loves to feel like a fitness Barbie or Ken for a day and we love to make you feel and look ready to grace the stage with a perfect concoction of confidence, poise & sass. We use the very best products in the beauty industry, our tan is used by pro athletes around the world & we are all professionals in our field, constantly training and keeping up with the latest trends and asking for yours and the judges feedback to make sure you are all getting the very best service.
Honestly we love our jobs who wouldn’t love seeing gorgeous men and women in prime condition looking glitzed & glammed and ready to strut their hard work leaving us looking like fitness Barbie & Ken. We think we are pretty awesome at our jobs too, however, some like to think we are superhuman and know the answers to all in the universe. Here’s the reality, we have come to the realization that we are good at our job not so good at:
And the list goes on……so this is why taking your essentials in your comp bag is SO important, pack for the unexpected!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO KNOW PRIOR TO COMPETITION DAY
Make sure you know this important information or have it packed & ready before the competition day
WHAT YOUR COMPETITION BAG SHOULD INCLUDE
Starting with the bag – make it a rollie bag ie. A suitcase (don’t mess up your tan with shoulder straps needs to have wheels)
A Makeup bag is certainly essential. We use long lasting waterproof products to ensure your makeup lasts and then set it with a waterproof long-lasting setting spray however again not psychic so it’s a great idea to just pack some basic simple essentials that many of you would already have.
Foundation or powder touchup – this can be just a dark powder just to rid yourself of any shine and keep you fresh incase you have hours before your category
Blotting paper could also be a great way to get rid of any shine or oil throughout the day
Eyelash Glue
Lipstick – a great idea is to show us your lipstick while we are doing your makeup so we can match your lip liner and lipstick to your colour
Small mirror
Makeup wipes to keep your hands tan free
Tweezers
HAIR:
Aside from makeup bag also good to keep some hairspray & hairbrush on hand just incase of any little ‘flyaways’. Again we use heavy duty spray but always good to have these products just incase.
Hairsrpay
Bobbypins
Hair tie for after comp
Hairbrush
Hair Straightener
TAN:
It is always a smart idea to take tan touch up foam or dream tan/muscle mud just in case of spills or leaks. It is easy to apply and simply rub the dream tan, muscle mud or foam over the area then dab with a kabuki brush or makeup powder brush to massage into skin. Ask us to show you in case you get stuck. We sell touch up spritz tan and dream tan for your convenience - particularly for those shows we wont be backstage.
It is also good to have a glaze or an oil to apply just before you jump on stage incase your tan looks to dry. We sell the Black Magic glaze or otherwise spraying coconut oil/canola oil (coconut at least smells better) on the body just before stage also works (remember spray from a distance you don’t want the oil running down your body just enough to make you shiny). PLEASE NOTE GLAZE WILL MARK THE TAN SO IF YOU ARE DOING SEVERAL CATEGORIES WE WOULDNT RECOMMEND USING AS CAN MAKE YOUR TAN RUN BETWEEN CATEGORIES.
GENERAL:
High heels for stage (some people take two pairs just incase)
Stage number
Safety pins
Jewellery (earring, bracelet etc.)
Towel incase you wish to lay on the floor and put your feet up stops tan lines etc.
Bikini Bite (remember do this just before you go on it will mark your tan once you stick to yourself so best do a toilet stop first)
Sewing kit
Scissors
Glitter spray
Girlie products just incase
Thongs (you don’t want to walk in heels all day)
Your dressing gown/overthrow for after tans
Camera, phone charger
Music/earphones for backstage if you are starting to get nervous
Cash
Vaseline (You will be dehydrated and don’t want your lips sticking to your teeth when you smile on stage)
Panadol
Nail file & Nail glue
Umbrella
FOOD:
Keep your food and drinks in a seperate cooler bag so you don't spill on your bikini/posing suit
Water bottles with squirt tops
Food/supplements
