The mechanics of constructing meaning, has been a key driving force of Sandra’s professional development. As a young broker at Dean Witter Morgan Stanley, she chose to dive deep and become a retirement planning specialist. She was keenly aware of the dynamics at play between the years that her clients had dedicated to building their careers ---with tenacity, drive, and discipline and the intrinsic reward “the payoff” of having saved and made sound investment decision with the guidance of a trusted financial advisor. For Sandra, managing her client’s retirement account was more than just managing an investment portfolio. “It had a deeper dimension,” she states, “stemming from a deep sense of respect for my clients’ personal construction of meaning and their sense of a life well spent, built on hard work and personal integrity.”
Her career branched out to international arenas when she joined Merrill Lynch as an international private banker. Her territory was Mexico and Central America. Soon afterwards she made the decision to return to her native Guatemala to care for aging parents and was the founding partner of C&I Capital & Investments a brokerage firm offering dollar denominated investments through Chase Manhattan Bank. “This shift opened a whole new playing field for me,” she recalls. “This is the stage of my career when I became very knowledgeable about compliance issues and the proliferation of white-collar crime.” Her passion for constructing meaning, now applied in a broader context ---to the economic and financial welfare of a sovereign, democratic country inspired her into the field of corporate training and talent development.
A well-respected figure within the legal community of Guatemala and Central American, Sandra organized annual legal training programs (White Collar Crime: Lessons for Central America) partnering with professors at Boston University School of Law and the Boston College Law School. English for Lawyers: Contracts, Prepositions & Phrasal Verbs through an alliance with HLS Language Services in Oceanside California, and Systems for Legal Advisors, a workshop written and delivered by Sandra, helping law firms organize their practice areas to become independent profit generating units within the firm, to generate a consistent stream of legal fees.
She has come full circle, joining The Pastor Financial Group as VP of Wealth Strategies which represents returning to finance and investments, specializing in self-directed brokerage accounts within individual 401(k) accounts. As an LSU graduate, she is thrilled to be back in this special part of the world, constructing meaning for this exciting next stage of her life!
