Have you stopped lately?

What I mean is, have you stopped to really evaluate how you're using your time, talents, and energy?

...Stopped packing your schedule to please others?

...Stopped putting your own needs last?

...Stopped just doing “one more thing quick”?

...Stopped putting the pressure on yourself to figure it all out on your own?

Breaking the Cycle

Chances are that you are where you are now with your weight and health because, up until now, you have been prioritizing others' needs above your own for years.

When you are constantly busy and overwhelmed, you don’t have much time to really think about how tired, out of shape, overweight, and unhappy you are.

Part of breaking down this cycle is really thinking about why you are so overloaded with tasks. Often, we say yes in a (subconscious) attempt to seek validation from others when we question our own self-worth.

Getting that “Thanks so much!” or “Great job!” from others, whether at work or at home, provides that momentary rush of endorphins and allows us to feel good about ourselves. But the feeling is fleeting… and the fear of the opposite – disappointing others, leads to chronic stress.

This feeling of constantly being spread thin spikes the levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) in your body, and tells your body to store fat…which leads to “comfort eating” and continues the cycle.

The bottom line is that no matter what diet, plan, or program you try, nothing will work long-term if you don’t address this key root issue. You cannot continue to put everyone’s needs above your own. You have value – without any validation from others.

Lose the Guilt

An effective system for losing weight and keeping it off long-term isn’t simply about what to eat and what not to eat.

It’s about how to make that happen in your own life when you feel like all you have time to do is grab a slice of cold pizza from the fridge, load up on caffeine with a soda, and move on to the next item on your schedule.

  • Have you’ve been living with a convenience over quality mindset, because it’s the only way you are able to get it all done?
  • Are you mentally and physically exhausted trying to “keep up” with everything and always on the go?

The key to losing weight and keeping it off is much more complex than “if only” you could find the right diet, "if only" you had more time to get to the gym regularly, and "if only" you had more time to prepare healthy meals.

It is time to get rid of the "if only" excuses and define what is really important in your life. It is time to recognize that you have value, and that spending your time and resources on yourself is important.

Of course, the real gem hidden in this epiphany is that by focusing on yourself and lowering your stress levels, not only will you make it more conducive for your body to shed excess weight, but you’ll also stabilize your moods and improve your relationships with those you care about most.

As I stand in my kitchen preparing lunch, I need to share my emotions. I took off yesterday and today just for me...

This is the first time in 5 years that I've done this. My time off has been to take care of others' needs or to work on work at home...

I feel different. I feel like I'm returning.
