Common Questions
A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) specializing in mental health care. PMHNPs are trained and certified to assess, diagnose, and treat individuals with psychiatric disorders, mental health issues, and substance abuse problems across the lifespan. They are qualified to prescribe medication, provide therapy, and offer comprehensive psychiatric care. PMHNPs often work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to address the complex needs of their patients and promote mental wellness.
During our initial meeting, we'll conduct a thorough interview and psychiatric assessment to gather essential information about your history, symptoms, and family dynamics. Based on our discussion and evaluation, we'll collaboratively determine the most suitable plan of action to proceed forward.
We uphold strict confidentiality regarding the details of our work together unless you authorize disclosure by signing the Authorization to Disclose Information form. However, in circumstances where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, we are legally obligated to report such instances to the appropriate authorities.
The extent of coverage for our services depends on your current insurance provider. Your health insurance or employee benefit plan may cover services in full or partially. Please check your coverage carefully by asking the following questions: What are my health insurance coverage and benefits for mental health services? What is my deductible, and has it been met? Do I have a co-pay or co-insurance? If so, how much is it? Copayments, Co-insurance, and deductibles are due at the beginning of each session. We accept all major credit cards.
We cannot provide exact estimates regarding the duration of your treatment. In general, the duration of treatment correlates with the length of time your mental illness has gone medically unrecognized. Some conditions necessitate minimal treatment time, while others require more extensive care. Certain mental illnesses may be addressed in just a few visits, while others may necessitate lifelong maintenance. We believe seeking treatment promptly offers the best chance for a positive outcome.
We provide comprehensive guidance and protocols for both in-office and at-home practices. Adhere closely to the treatment regimen and plan of action recommended by our team. Ensure compliance with medication schedules, attend psychotherapy and counseling sessions as recommended, and strive to maintain balance in your life. It's crucial to minimize exposure to stressful situations, accept assistance from loved ones whenever available, and promptly seek help if you sense a recurrence or worsening of your mental illness.
Several factors contribute to the recurrence of mental illness:
1. Coexisting Life Stresses: Mental illness recurrence often coincides with additional life stressors such as family or marital issues, starting a new job, or experiencing the loss of a loved one.
2. Age: Individuals diagnosed with a mental illness earlier in life are more likely to experience its recurrence later on.
3. Diagnosis: Certain mental illnesses have a higher likelihood of recurrence than others. Examples include OCD, drug and alcohol addiction, eating disorders, and bipolar disorder.
