INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY - INSPIRING OTHERS TO MAKE CHANGE
International Women's Day 2022 - International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality. Marked annually on March 8th, International Women's Day (IWD) is one of the most important days of the year to:
celebrate women's achievements
raise awareness about women's equality
lobby for accelerated gender parity
fundraise for female-focused charities
I was so humbled to be recognised by Business Exchange South West as one of 22 Inspiring women in business in Bath & Somerset for 2022 this week.
I am excited and honoured to be speaking at their event on March 8th 2022 in Bath and sharing my story on how I went from a busy single working mum in the corporate world to building my business helping others grow stronger in body and mind. It’s been a long journey with many ups and downs but they have shaped and moulded me into a stronger and happier version of a human!
Strength and movement are my passions (and dogs of course!) and my journey began by being inspired by other strength and movement coaches whom I admired and aspired to.
That is what propelled me to take that big leap and what was now the best risk I’ve ever taken!
This made me stop and think about how inspiring others has such a huge impact on change in our lives.
We often view change as challenging. Having to change what or how we have done things for many years can bring feelings of fear. It’s the unknown and we humans usually like sticking to what we know and not budging.
However, without change, there will be no growth. Whether it’s changing how we eat, exercise, schedule our diaries, speak to or treat others are all huge factors of how we can develop in so many other ways in our lives.
A lot of this relates to habits. Yes, I hear you cry, she is banging on about that old chestnut again but hear me out. Habit-forming and building are all about change. It is how we reach new goals, change old beliefs and move to great heights if we allow the fear of change to motivate instead of intimidating us.
So if we are inspired by someone or something it gives us extra momentum to embrace the changes we need to make to get to that place or reach that goal. I am inspired by so many people for so many different things and I use that inspiration to drive me to reach my goals and make changes in my life.
I recently watched the documentary on Netflix 14 Peaks about the fearless Nepali ex-special forces mountaineer Nimsdai Purja who took on the seemingly impossible quest of summiting all 14 of the world's 8000-metre peaks in under 7 months. If you haven’t seen it then trust me it is totally jaw-dropping and well worth it.
The overriding thing you recognise throughout the documentary is Nims never ever stops believing in himself or knowing and telling himself he can do this.
In his own words: “A positive mindset can overcome anything. Have you ever heard of winners making an excuse? Do not let anyone tell you anything is impossible because they are not you! Nobody knows you better than yourself only you know who you are so believe in that and go for it and make it happen”.
I am so inspired by this attitude. It makes me believe anything is possible if you believe in yourself! I hope that I can continue to inspire others in whatever way I can.
