The course objectives
The principal objectives of this 3-module intro course on neuroanatomy are to learn how our body creates movement and how to use Pilates exercises to help your clients with neurological dysfunctions.
We will do this by addressing these questions:
How do we move anyway?
Really, how is the movement happening? Where is that motion actually coming from?
What are the causes that don't allow the movement to happen?
What can we Pilates instructors do about it?
In more details, in this course you will:
💎Understand the basic functions of the brain and spinal cord.
💎 Understand the brain-muscle connection and why this connection fails when there is an injury or illness.
💎 Understand how muscles contract.
💎 Learn common neurological dysfunctions and how they are presented.
💎 Learn how to develop a Pilates exercise repertoire to help your clients with neurological deficits and challenges.
Understand The Connection Between Brain and Physical Function
Learn Why These Processes Fail When There Is Injury or Illness
Learn How Pilates Can Help Clients with Neurological Challenges
A Three-Module Course For Pilates Instructors
Module 1
The central nervous system: The brain and spinal cord
12 hours of lectures and demonstrations (12 sessions of 1-hour each, Livestream on Zoom)
LECTURES
Introduction to brain and spinal cord anatomy. We will learn about the brain and spinal cord's parts and functions and how they interact with each other to trigger our physical functions. This is where we form the basis of understanding of how we move and what can go wrong when one or more parts of the brain and spinal cord don't function correctly. We will then develop a deeper understanding of these related dysfunctions:
💎 Strokes.
💎 Parkinson’s Disease.
💎 Cerebral Palsy.
💎 Ataxia.
💎 MS.
💎 Huntington's disease.
PRACTICAL PILATES APPLICATIONS
In this last section of the module we will:
💎 Learn to recognize client complaints, and what symptoms to look out for.
💎 Learn the contraindications or what not to do with clients with these specific diagnoses.
💎 Learn what Pilates exercises YOU CAN do and the exercise progression for each stage of your clients’ recovery.
💎 Review case studies and learn how to put all the pieces together to help your clients.
BEYOND THE MODULE
Included in the course!
💎 1-hour Q&A session.
💎 Post-course support and my availability to answer specific questions you may have about difficult client cases.
💎 Lifetime access to our educational portal with all recorded sessions.
Module 2
The peripheral nervous system and the dysfunctions of the nerves or motor neuron
10 hours of lectures and demonstrations (10 sessions of 1-hour each, Livestream on Zoom)
LECTURES
Introduction to the peripheral nervous system (PNS). We will learn how the nerves and neurons create a circuit all tied together to send information from one area of the body to another. We will then develop a deeper understanding of these related dysfunctions:
💎 Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
💎 Peripheral nerve dysfunctions and spinal cord dysfunctions
💎 B12 deficiency
💎 Charcot Marie Tooth Disease
PRACTICAL PILATES APPLICATIONS
In this last section of the module we will:
💎 Learn to recognize client complaints, and what symptoms to look out for
💎 Learn the contra-indications and what not to do with clients with these specific diagnoses
Module 3
Muscle Function and Virally-Induced Neurological Dysfunctions
8 hours of lectures and demonstrations (8 sessions of 1-hour each, Livestream on Zoom)
LECTURES
We will learn in detail how the muscles work, where they get the signal to contract, and what happens when something goes wrong along the way. We will analyze these muscular dysfunctions:
💎 Myasthenia Gravis
💎 Muscular dystrophy
And these viral induced nerve disorders:
💎 Guillan Barrè Syndrome
💎 Lyme Disease
💎 Poliomyelitis
PRACTICAL PILATES APPLICATIONS

THE COURSE IN DETAILS
This course teaches functional anatomy applied to Pilates and it was conceived for the Pilates instructor who wishes to become a real professional. The course consists of 10 hours of lectures and demos focused on the bones and the muscles of the human body. The objectives are to deepen the comprehension of the human body in a way which is directly applied to Pilates exercises. It is taught in easy to follow steps and in a fun way. You will learn, for example, why tense muscles can limit movement, or why a joint does not remain in its intended correct position.
The course is divided in 7 modules:
🔹 Planes of movement & anatomy basics
🔹 Lumbar Spine and SI joint
🔹 Cervical and Thoracic Spine
🔹 Hip & Knee
🔹 Ankle & Foot
🔹 Shoulder
🔹 Elbow/Wrist/Hand
